Unforgettables’ Founder, Cheryl Merriweather Shares Her Sweet Story of Success
The kitchen has always been home for Cheryl Merriweather, owner and operator of Unforgettables Sweets. “When I was just a little girl I used to lick the cake batter off the mixers after my mother made cakes for the holidays,” Cheryl says, “Making sweet, delicious treats is just part of who I am.” Over 6 years, Cheryl transformed her passion for baking and turned it into a full blown business.

Cheryl began her journey by baking just for fun. She enjoyed being the go-to baker for family, friends and coworkers, but never envisioned turning her hobby into her business. She says, “I never wanted to turn my love for baking into a job,” she began, “Jobs are boring and work is...well, work. I loved baking, I never wanted it to be something I grew to hate.” After a few years of baking for fun, Cheryl realized that baking could never feel like work because it was her passion. In Spring 2014, Cheryl launched the business that became Unforgettables.

After two years of success, Cheryl expanded her business to include customized cakes and dessert creations. “[Cake decorating] took me back to when I was a kid and drew pictures to see if I could duplicate what I saw,” Cheryl said. She continued, “I didn’t realize that I still had it until I started getting orders that challenged my creativity.”
Despite consistent orders and a loyal following, Cheryl continued to balance her bustling cake business with full time work. She remembers wanting to transition to full time entrepreneurship but was deathly afraid of the prospect. In 2019, all that changed and Cheryl finally ditched her day job to focus on Unforgettables. “I've never been more proud of myself than when I chose to live my dream everyday. I have no regrets.”
